OUR CHURCH FAMILY

A small community.
An enduring faith.

Archangel Raphael & St. George Coptic Orthodox Church brings together families, young professionals, and West Virginia University students in the heart of Morgantown.

Rooted in the ancient apostolic faith of the Coptic Orthodox Church, we gather for the Holy Liturgy, share agape meals, care for others, and grow closer to Christ and one another.

OUR HERITAGE

About the Coptic Church.

When St. Mark came to Egypt, he brought with him the treasured faith of our Lord Jesus Christ and the glorious news of His Resurrection. He was eventually martyred, but not before ordaining bishops and deacons, and converting huge swathes of the population. Jumping forward in time, we are still practicing those same traditions and believing in those same words that He gave to St. Mark, who gave it to us.

That's not to say that only Egyptians are part of the Church. Following St. Mark's example and the Lord's words (Matthew 28:16-20), we learned the importance of evangelism. No matter your country of birth, you are welcome at Archangel Raphael & St. George.

To say that we're Orthodox does not mean that we are Jewish. Instead, “Orthodox” is originally a Greek word meaning “straight knowledge” or “true belief.” It is this that we hold onto, a confidence confirmed by two thousand years of history and bloodshed of martyrs.
